When Don Thompson stepped down from his position as CEO of McDonald's in March of this year, no one expected where he would end up next. The businessman spent nearly 25 years with the company and left during a time when the fast food corporation has been experiencing declines in sales and customers.
CEO of Beyond Meat Ethan Brown confirmed Thompson's recent arrival to the plant-based company's board and released a statement saying:
"We look forward to working with Don to bring our plant-based meats to consumers here in the United States and abroad."
Thompson extended his non-compete agreement with McDonald's to two years before stepping down, and a representative from the company confirmed that his new position with Beyond Meat does not violate its terms. He still will provide consulting services to Mickey D's for one year and recieve a $3 million paycheck.
The fact that a former higher-up of one of the most powerful and well-known companies in the cruel business of selling meat, dairy, and eggs is truly a sign of the times. Seth Goldman was also recently appointed to the board, the CEO and founder of Honest Tea, a company that is owned by Coca-Cola. Keep 'em coming, Beyond Meat!
