Eight Fun and Veg-Friendly Back-to-School Lunch Ideas!

Back to School kids in class

It’s that time of year again, back-to-school! The frantic mornings have returned from summer break and it’s time to the dust off the kids' alarm clocks and get the morning circus back in action. Missing homework, bus rides, mommy taxi, and school lunches! Oh my!

While I can’t help locate any missing assignments or assist with carpooling, I can offer you eight great idea’s for giving their brown bag lunches a wow factor.

Girl coloring

  1. For younger children (unless for some reason your teens think this is cool too) have them pre-color their own brown paper lunch bags. Bring out the stickers, crayons, old magazines, glue sticks and let them go at it. These are easily made and stored for future use.

Vegan Yogurt

  1. Freeze individual containers of applesauce or yogurt (yes, yogurt!) the night before. In the morning use these instead of ice packs inside their lunches. Throw in some granola and your kids are set up with an awesome treat for lunch.

Macaroni Salad

  1. Pasta salad makes an excellent addition to any school lunch, since it doesn’t need to be reheated. My favorite recipe has been tested by my pickiest eater and he loved it. You can find the recipe by clicking here.

Energy Balls

  1. Speaking of awesome recipes, here's a great pick-me-up to get your child through the 2nd half of the school day: Energy Balls! It is an easy four-ingredient recipe that you can prepare ahead of time.

  1. What child doesn’t love nachos?! As long as you separate the filling and the chips, you’re good to go! Here's a recipe for vegetarian nachos, though it can easily be veganized.

Fruit with writing on them

  1. Write a message on some fruit. Here's a cute idea I found on Pinterest, from the blog Cakewhiz.com. Though I don’t know that I would write on fruit that didn’t have a peel, I think it would make for a fun surprise for a kids lunch!

Peanut Butter Sushi Rolls

  1. Make it fun for older kids with Peanut Butter and Jelly Sushi, and don't forget to include the chopsticks! This might become their favorite way to eat PB&J.

Lunch jokes

  1. School can be hard, so make sure to give your kids a bit of laughter at lunch with these free printable kids lunch jokes.

There you have it, eight easy and fun ideas to help brighten your kids' lunches and ensure that you’ll be getting their vote for parent of the year!
