Boxer David Haye Returns to Ring Vegan After 3+ Year Absence & Wins!
David Haye, United Kingdom heavyweight boxer, made a victorious return to the ring this month, after a serious shoulder injury saw him retire in 2013.
While the news of the planned comeback was kept private until he began training, due to Haye wanting to make sure he didn’t make a promise he couldn’t keep, another significant development occurred in the two-time world champion’s life: he became a vegan. In early 2014, Haye learned more about the treatment of animals, and made the decision. He stated:
“I watched a TV documentary about how animals are farmed, killed and prepared for us to eat. I saw all those cows and pigs and realized I couldn’t be a part of it any more. It was horrible. I did some research to make sure I could still obtain enough protein to fight and, once satisfied that I could, I stopped. I’ll never go back.”
And not only was it enough protein, it was enough to enable him to defeat his opponent Mark de Mori in the first round at London’s O2 Arena in just 131 seconds! The January 16 match was viewed by three million viewers eager to see the long-awaited return of the boxer, after a three-and-a-half year absence.
Three million viewers who saw living proof of what vegans are capable of!
