Giorgio Armani Pledges to Focus on Fur-Free Fashion!
In a very important and influential announcement for the fashion industry and beyond, Giorgio Armani has officially announced that his brand will phase out the use of fur, and focus on the use of alternatives instead!
All of the world famous fashion designer’s labels are set to be free of fur by the 2016 autumn/winter collection, and the announcement comes after a collaboration began with the Humane Society International and the Fur Free Alliance, which represents 40 animal protection organizations present in 28 countries.
According to Express, Armani stated:
“I am pleased to announce that the Armani Group has made a firm commitment to abolish the use of animal fur in its collections. Technological progress made over the years allows us to have valid alternatives at our disposition that render the use of cruel practices unnecessary as regards animals. Pursuing the positive process undertaken long ago, my company is now taking a major step ahead, reflecting our attention to the critical issues of protecting and caring for the environment and animals.”
While the Humane Society congratulated the move, calling it “hugely significant for the global fashion industry”, it hopes the recent announcement will continue to influence brands and designers that continue to include fur in their collections to follow suit. Executive director of Humane Society International, Claire Bass, stated:
“Those designers such as Prada, Fendi and Michael Kors who continue to put animal suffering on the catwalk are looking increasingly isolated, with this move by Armani probably the most powerful message yet that killing animals for their fur is never fashionable.”
At the age of 81, Armani is proof that it is never too late to change, and will hopefully serve as inspiration for many of the above brands to cut the unnecessary use of fur from their collections!
