Stranger Things Star Matthew Modine on His Favorite Vegan Dishes
Actor Matthew Modine, known for his roles in films such as Vision Quest and Full Metal Jacket, was the spotlight in a recent feature in People for their Sexiest Men in the Kitchen episode. The star of the hit series Stranger Things was actually a professional chef before becoming an actor with his now three-decade strong career, and he dishes out some of his favorite vegan meals in the feature!
According to People, the 57-year-old has been a “practicing vegan for nearly 12 years,” and provides some insider information on plant-based cuisine and a favorite dessert recipe. He states:
“It creates great challenges about how you create the fatty butter taste without suing fatty butter. But chefs have gotten so good at making healthy sinful food. I think some vegan pastries are better than those with butter and sugar! Apple pie is my favorite dessert forever. I use Granny Smith apples because they’re sour and I don’t ever put sugar in my pies. I mix other fruit like mangoes with the apples and that takes care of the sweetness.”
And just in time for Thanksgiving, Modine talks about the key ingredients in his meatless meatloaf for those looking to find some vegan centerpiece options:
“I use mushrooms and mix them with wild rices and ketchup. You would never know you were eating a vegan meatloaf. I crave it once a week!”
